Despite having a cold (so typical and the first one in around 5 years), I did enjoy my short holiday. I was away for 3 nights and it was great not to be able to use a computer at all. I did not do all the things I wanted to do due to not feeling as good as I had hoped but I did not think about my writing work once. That was a huge positive on its own.
I checked out a couple of comedians performing in the Comedy Festival. I saw a great movie. I checked out the Police Museum. Because it was free and walking distance from my hotel, it was a good way to spend an hour. I also checked out a popular arts and crafts market. That was great as it has been many years since I have been to that market.
The city itself has changed a lot in the last few years so it was nice to see how things have altered, even though some changes were definitely not for the better.
Overall, the break did me good and has recharged the batteries so I can come back and do more work again.
I highly recommend everyone take a break at least once a year. It doesn’t have to be a long one but it breaks the routine and gives you a chance to “smell the roses” instead of leading the same life day after day.
